OnlyFans media buying — paid ads that actually turn a profit

Media buying is how a creator grows past word of mouth. You pay to put the right offer in front of the right people, then put more money behind whatever pays you back. On OnlyFans there is a problem baked in: you can’t measure the sale itself, so plenty of ad accounts bleed money for weeks before anyone notices. Here is how the funnel actually works, and what it takes to make it profitable.

What is OnlyFans media buying?

Media buying means paying for traffic, almost always Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram, and running it through a funnel that turns strangers into paying OnlyFans fans. The buyer’s job is easy to state. Spend a budget, bring back more than you spent, and put more behind whatever works. The hard part is everything that happens between the click and the sale.

Why most OnlyFans ad accounts lose money

You can’t put a Meta Pixel on onlyfans.com. It isn’t your domain, so Meta never sees the subscription or the PPV purchase. It optimises on the only thing it can see, which is link clicks and landing-page views. Almost every OnlyFans buyer has watched this play out. The first few days look fine. Then the cost per subscriber starts to climb, because Meta keeps sending you the cheapest clicks it can find and each new subscriber spends a little less than the last. The algorithm is doing its job. It is just learning from the wrong signal.

The core problem. Meta optimises for the events it receives. If the only event you send is a click, it goes and finds you more clickers. Fixing OnlyFans media buying starts with sending the real conversions back to Meta.

The funnel: from ad to paying fan

Every paid OnlyFans funnel is short. People fall away at each step, and media buying is mostly the patient work of winning back a few percent at each one.

  1. The adCreative and targeting on Facebook or Instagram.
  2. A tracked landing pageA page you control, never the raw OF link, where you can measure and fire events.
  3. The OnlyFans subscribeOften a free sub. The revenue comes later.
  4. Chatting and PPVThe DM turns a subscriber into a spender, fast, while they’re still warm.

The hard part: tracking and attribution

Profitable media buying lives or dies on measurement. Since you can’t pixel OnlyFans, the workaround is a landing page you control plus the Conversions API. The browser pixel fires the shallow top-of-funnel events. Your server sends the deep ones, Subscribe and Purchase, to Meta with the match keys you captured at click time. Get that right and Meta finally optimises for paying fans instead of clickers, and you can trace any subscriber back to the exact ad and creative that brought them. See the OnlyFans Meta Pixel guide for how the pieces fit together.

Read ROAS by cohort, not by day

A fresh OnlyFans subscriber is worth almost nothing on day zero. Most sign up on a free sub, and the money shows up later, over the first few weeks, through PPV and tips. Judge a campaign on its day-one ROAS and you’ll kill your best performers before they’ve had a chance to pay out. Track revenue by cohort instead (D7, D14, D30) and the profitable campaigns separate themselves from the rest. Tracking subscriptions in Meta is what makes that reading possible.

In-house or agency?

Plenty of creators start out with an agency or a freelance buyer. Others hire in-house and build the muscle themselves. Either route can work. The one thing you can’t skip is owning your own tracking. Without a clear read on cost per paying fan and cohort ROAS, you’re guessing, and paying Meta for the privilege.

Frequently asked questions

What is media buying for OnlyFans?

Paid acquisition for OnlyFans creators. You run ads, usually on Meta (Facebook and Instagram), to a funnel that turns cold traffic into paying subscribers, then put more budget behind the campaigns that bring back more than they cost.

Can you run OnlyFans ads on Facebook and Instagram?

Not by putting onlyfans.com straight in the ad. Buyers advertise a compliant landing page that redirects to OnlyFans, which also gives them a place to measure the funnel and send conversions to Meta. The raw OnlyFans link never touches the ad itself.

Why does my cost per subscriber keep going up?

Because Meta can’t see the subscription. There is no pixel on onlyfans.com, so it optimises on clicks and keeps fetching the cheapest ones it can find. Each new subscriber costs a bit more and spends a bit less. Sending the real Subscribe and Purchase events back through the Conversions API is what turns that around.

How do you track OnlyFans ad conversions?

With a landing page you control, the Meta Pixel for top-of-funnel events, and the Conversions API to send subscriptions and purchases from your server with the visitor’s match keys attached. That gives Meta something real to optimise on, and lets you tie each fan back to the ad that brought them.

Should I hire an agency or do media buying in-house?

Both can work. What matters is that you own the measurement, meaning cost per paying fan and cohort ROAS. Without those numbers, neither an agency nor an in-house buyer can tell a profitable campaign from a losing one.
